History in the Making
At the age of fourteen Isabella, or Bella as she is known, decided she wanted to earn money to buy her first car. She had been babysitting, and had approximately $350 saved. She talked to her parents and they suggested that she start her own business and matched her saved babysitting money as “seed money.” Bella settled on starting a business that sold lockets and charms in October, 2010. Loving the art of paper folding (origami) since she was very young, and with her and her mother both loving owls, the name wasn’t difficult to choose!
Starting with a kiosk in a Chandler, AZ mall, she found that she had a very appealing product in her beautiful lockets and charms. In November, 2010 the kiosk was left behind for a retail outlet in the mall, and she was launched into the business world with the support of her parents. The lockets and charms were such an amazing success, the family decided to launch a Direct Sales division in February of 2011. Origami Owl signed their first Designer in October of 2011 and by January of 2012, they had 100 Designers. I became a Designer on January 14, and am Designer number 1189. Bella and her mother, Chrissy, were featured in an article on mother/daughter businesses in Family Circle Magazine in April of 2012. Things were moving VERY rapidly for Bella and her business. The growth was phenomenal; a “wait list” was put into place due to the rapid growth, and when it lifted in May of 2012, there was an average of one new Designer signing up per second for the first 24 hours!
On June 15, 2012 Bella turned 16 and I watched her receive the car she had worked so hard for at a regional training meeting; a white Jeep she christened “Alice.” What a proud day that was for her, her family, and the Designers who were there to cheer for her.
There have been moves to larger facilities, increases in staffing, new ideas, charms, partnerships with Swarovski for our crystals and Universal Studios. and lockets. Where is Origami Owl going to go? I know the possibilities are limitless, and I am going along for the ride!
In the world of Direct Sales, Origami Owl is still just an “owlet.” There is a lot of room for more Designers who can build very successful businesses. Come along with Team Owl Dazzle You; it may be the “ride” of a lifetime!
